At the beginning of the new year, many of us find ourselves longing for color that can be found in seasons other than winter. I envision fields of wildflowers, desert vistas with the stark contrast of red rocks and sagebrush, my own Denver backyard in the spring when the peonies bloom or later in summer with the yarrow and larkspur in their full glory. Even in the winter, the crows are there to keep me company on the days when the sun is shining and I venture to the nearby riparian area along Bear Creek.
Some of the pieces in this collection incorporate collected plant specimens that have been pressed and dried, reminiscent of collections gathered in past lives, both as a child roaming the desert and later as a botany student at the University of New Mexico.
